{"id":466,"date":"2018-03-12T20:05:01","date_gmt":"2018-03-12T07:05:01","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/aspiringbiodiversity.co.nz\/?page_id=466"},"modified":"2024-08-15T14:01:57","modified_gmt":"2024-08-15T02:01:57","slug":"community-education","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/aspiringbiodiversity.co.nz\/?page_id=466","title":{"rendered":"Community\/Education"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p><strong>Activities of Engagement &#8211; Biodiversity Education<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Increasing<\/strong> understanding, awareness and appreciation of the values of biodiversity, including the associated knowledge, values and approaches used by indigenous people and local communities, in line with the <strong>Post 2020<\/strong> <strong>Global Biodiversity Framework<\/strong> and <strong>Te Mana o te Taiao<\/strong>, the<strong> Aotearoa New Zealand Biodiversity Strategy<\/strong> (2020). <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>ABT provide bespoke biodiversity education sessions\/activities\/residential events with schools, students, tourism providers and various groups. <\/strong>This includes residential field courses with experts in the field of ecology, ornithology, geology and conservation practices. The strategy includes the promotion of Environmental Accreditation (bronze, silver, gold) under the BRaid scheme for involvement and promotion of braided river bird restoration programmes on the Makarora River. ABT have also been involved in biodiversity education programmes with Enviroschools, and One Day School Programmes as well as other Otago School&#8217;s in the region.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Further events include our January 2021 residential field-course on flora, fauna survey techniques and data analysis delivered in partnership with <a href=\"https:\/\/www.opwall.com\/schools\/educational-benefits\/local-ecology-field-trips\/new-zealand\/\">Operation Wallacea<\/a>. This is an annual event to be held each January to promote the future environmental caretakers, raise awareness of the importance of indigenous biodiversity and promote scientific biological recording. <a href=\"https:\/\/aspiringbiodiversity.co.nz\/the-first-makarora-field-course-a-success\/\">The <\/a><a href=\"https:\/\/aspiringbiodiversity.co.nz\/?p=1829\">First Makarora Field Course &#8211;
