{"id":2600,"date":"2022-06-03T11:35:13","date_gmt":"2022-06-02T23:35:13","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/aspiringbiodiversity.co.nz\/?page_id=2600"},"modified":"2024-11-20T14:20:22","modified_gmt":"2024-11-20T01:20:22","slug":"kia-ora-2","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/aspiringbiodiversity.co.nz\/","title":{"rendered":"Kia ora"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>And welcome to our initiative<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>The Aspiring Biodiversity Trust&nbsp;intends to protect and enhance indigenous biodiversity within the Makarora\/ Makarore Wilkin\/ \u014ct\u0101nenui Catchments from Ridge to River (part of Mt Aspiring National Park and a UNESCO World Heritage site).<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>At the same time raising awareness of the importance of the natural world and connecting people with nature!<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>The project area encompasses many of Aotearoa\u2019s iconic and highly threatened species such as<\/strong> <strong>rock wren\/ <strong>p\u012bwauwau<\/strong>, kea and blue duck\/ whio of the Wilkin, Tiel and Siberia Valleys. Makarora&#8217;s beech\/ podocarp forest for k\u0101k\u0101,&nbsp;mohua and long-tailed bat\/ pekapeka-tou-roa<\/strong> <strong>and the braided rivers for black-fronted tern\/ tarapiroe<\/strong> <strong>and wrybill\/ ngutuparore. The location has unique cultural significance to mana whenua and includes highcountry farmland.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Biodiversity&nbsp;<\/strong>(from \u201cbiological diversity\u201d) refers to the variety of life on earth. Composed of all plants and animals (inc. their genes) and the ecosystems that support them.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Biodiversity<\/strong>&nbsp;encompasses and forms the foundation of the vast array of ecosystem services. The evolutionary, ecological, and cultural processes that sustain life.
